Earlier, I had looked at the iPhone 6 Plus as a potentially awesome Google Phone. Of course, only a couple of days later, the interwebs were choking with news that the iPhone 6 Plus bends. It pretty much took over the entire smartphone discussion sphere around the world, and naturally spawned thousands of memes, one of which was crafted for your truly, as shown above.
It was actually extremely entertaining to see the Android/iOS crowds engage with each other on a level that had never truly been balanced in the Android camp’s favour. Now, here we had an actual, verified reason for the Android loyal to smirk and mock their iOS opposition. Sure, the iPhone 6 Plus bends, but for Android users the world over, it meant way more than that, and boy did they take the advantage.
Of course, over the next week things did not get any better for Apple, and their users, when an update for iOS 8 crippled users of the iPhone, disabling cellular functions, and reducing the iPhone 6 Plus to an iPad Micro, if you like. This added more fuel to the fire and without a doubt, gave senior Apple management headaches for what should have been a generation-changing iPhone release, finally succumbing to the market demands for large screen devices.
As I watched the media circus, both on a new media level and on a social network platform, I couldn’t help but think about Apple’s upcoming response. Would they be able to re-purpose all of the events of the past week into a positive for its users? Maybe the iPhone 6 Plus bends in response to the users needs, and maybe there are some people out there who actually want a 6 inch Apple tablet?
Then it was simply a case of lights, camera, and one take action. Here’s my take on why the iPhone 6 Plus Bends.
