Last weekend on Radio 2GB I spoke about the very real threat posed by malware to users of mobile banks apps. If you do own an Android phone, and have possibly been caught up in this attack, here are the easy steps to take the malware off your device.
First you need to go to settings, then security and find your device administrator section. Select this, and if you see a “flash player” as a device administrator, you are very possibly infected. Choose the flash player and deactivate it. It may ask you if you want to continue, in which case press OK. (in this case a “hell, yeah!” would be more appropriate.)
You may need to go into safe mode in order to deactivate the “flash player”, as the malware might throw an overlay on the screen preventing you from deactivation. In safe mode any third party apps are not opened in the background.
Then go out of the security settings area and over to your application manager, find the flash player app and uninstall it.
Here is more information on the attack itself.
Until next time!

Thanks for this instruction Ritchie. Thank God I wasn’t infected. As soon as I heard about this malware I deleted all my banking apps from my Samsung S4. Now I can re-install them and do another check for the malware.
Love your segment with Suzie on 2GB.
My pleasure David! Thanks for listening to the segment, I’m impressed with anyone that can be awake at that hour – which is why I always post the podcasts here for delayed listening lol!
Hi Ritchie, first heard you o Suzie’s program this morning. Very impressive. Will listen again. Thanks for above info on Android banking issue, which I’ve been concerned about. After following your instructions, found out I was not infected. But should I activate Android Device Manager? Your advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. Gloria.
